Marissa has over 24 years of experience in the healthcare industry in all areas of revenue cycle management with focus on prospective and retrospective auditing, compliance, and education. She has extensive experience in multi-specialty evaluation/management (E&M), surgical coding and auditing with a focus on educating physicians and mid-level providers on correct coding and documentation for compliant billing to maximize reimbursement.

Marissa excels in partnering with Orthopedic groups from small to large practices by working and creating a team environment between the providers and the teams that support them by understanding coded data, how to lessen denials, and maximize reimbursement that affects the bottom line. She performs robust and effective audits of each specific Orthopedic specialty with timely follow-up engaging the provider(s) with essential feedback and resources. Marissa’s ability to quickly identify proper documentation workflow, template build within their electronic medical record (EMR), and billing denial issues enables her to assist clients specific to their individualized needs that will turn continued and potential problems into actionable solutions.

Most recently, Marissa worked for a National Consulting firm where she served as the lead Orthopedic surgical and E/M QA Quality reviewer. Prior to that she worked for a large physician owned Orthopedic practice as the Auditing manager and oversaw the day-to-day operations for the coding department for surgical coding as well as the E/M auditing and education for providers. While there she also developed the Coding/Compliance program with auditing/monitoring schedules, policies, provider education, and onboarding for new providers and fellows.

Marissa holds certifications as a professional coder (CPC), a professional medical auditor (CPMA), certified professional biller (CPB), a certified professional anesthesia and pain management coder (CANPC), and a certified pediatrics coder (CPEDC) from the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC). In addition, she also holds certification as a certified coding specialist (CCS) from The American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).

Marissa enjoys bowling, camping, boating, antiquing, and the beach is her happy place! She and her husband love spending time with their two granddaughters and time at home with their dachshund Molly.
