Cheyenne Brinson, MBA, CPA

For over a decade, Cheyenne Brinson has helped physician practices ranging in size and specialities improve operational and financial efficiency. Cheyenne draws upon her experience as a CPA to help practices build solid internal controls, reduce overhead, and increase revenue.
Cheyenne works extensively with Orthopaedics, Plastic Surgery, Otolaryngology, Vascular, General Surgery and Neurosurgery practices to increase efficiencies to improve collections and leverage overhead costs. Prior to joining KarenZupko & Associates, she was a Director in a primary care practice where she turned around the practice from operating in the red to a profit in less than one year. She led an implementation team to open a new clinic site fully functional on an EMR.
Key recent accomplishments include:
- Saved a practice $89k in staff costs by appropriately implementing technology and improving efficiencies
- Identified $3k-$15k of savings in credit card processing fees
- Revamped the surgery coordination process to increase patient collections by 10-25%
- Developed financial dashboards and benchmarks for a practice
Passionate about helping physicians understand the financial picture of their practice, she has developed financial statements and dashboards that meet the management needs of the physician owner. She has set up chart of accounts, trained physician practices to use QuickBooks (and other accounting systems), and has presented financial results to Physicians and Administrators.
Highly motivated and enthusiastic, Cheyenne is a seasoned trainer and speaker, presenting topics such as overhead reduction, financial security, collecting in a recession, and other emerging topics, including e-Prescribing, Physician Quality Reporting Initiative (PQRI) and the Red Flags Rule.
Not just a numbers person, Cheyenne provides customer service training and has facilitated strategic planning sessions with physicians and staff. She also coaches and mentors practice managers.
Cheyenne is an instructor for KZA’s national coding and reimbursement workshops sponsored by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) and American Academy of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery Foundation (AAO-HNSF). She is published in The American Journal of Orthopedics, Plastic Surgery News, NERVES News, and the Association of Plastic Surgery Assistants Network Publication.
Cheyenne is currently president of the Illinois Medical Group Management Association (ILMGMA). She holds a Master of Business Administration and Bachelor’s degree in accounting from Troy State University in Troy, Alabama.
