Teri Gatchel, MBA, Consultant and Speaker
As a former practice administrator in both academic and private practice settings, Teri Gatchel understands the daily issues facing physicians and staff in terms of developing and managing effective business systems.
Teri works with physicians and staff on practice management issues including reimbursement systems improvement and financial management, personnel management, managed care contract negotiation, and group development. She also provides practice startup or practice transition services to physicians, ensuring effective business systems are in place when the new practice opens its doors.
A national speaker on coding and reimbursement issues for the American Academy of Otolaryngology and the American College of Surgeons, Teri provides coding and documentation review services, as well as onsite coding workshops for private practice, academic institutions, and regional medical specialty societies. She developed and taught “Coding Tips in Podiatry” for the Pennsylvania Podiatric Medical Association.
No stranger to compliance issues, Teri has previously held key responsibility for the office compliance plan in both private and academic practice. She consults with practices on compliance issues and also teaches on this topic, including national programs such as the Congress of Neurological Surgeons’ annual meeting.
Her knowledge of coding and reimbursement issues is built on a solid foundation at UT Southwestern Medical Center, including significant work to increase the overall cash flow for 16 clinical departments. Her successful effort to implement a reimbursement appeal systems resulted in $1 million in additional revenue. Following in the wake of her work in the centralized billing office, she served as the business operations manager for the Department of Otorhinolaryngology at UT Southwestern and then succeeded to the position of Administrator of the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Teri earned her Master degree in Business/Health Care Administration from the University of Dallas . She also holds a Bachelor degree in Business/Finance from Texas Wesleyan University.
