Medi Spas Under Scrutiny by State Regulators

On Friday you were sent this Alert regarding if Medical Spa Certification is a good idea. Our original communication contained a broken link, please use this updated link to fill out our short survey letting us know if you think Medical Spa certification is a good idea.

If you work with a Medical Spa, change is coming. Cosmetic procedures performed by unlicensed providers could become a thing of the past. The Boston Globe reports that Massachusetts lawmakers are pushing to require Medical Spas get licensed by the Department of Public Health. Many other states are considering similar action.

Under the proposed Massachusetts plan, laser skin procedures such as the removal of age spots and tattoos would have to be performed by a doctor or nurse with special training. Cosmetologists, electrologists, aestheticians and other nonmedical practitioners would be allowed to perform procedures such as laser hair removal – but only after receiving training and certification.

At KZA, we feel that a carefully supervised physician office would have nothing to fear from certification and could, in fact, gain a lot by distinguishing itself from its lesser competition. However, we’d like to know what you think.

Please remember to fill out our short survey letting us know if you think Medical Spa certification is a good idea. Results will be posted in a forthcoming alert.
