Are You PECOS Ready?
CMS released new guidelines for group practices to use PECOS (Medicare’s internet-based Provider Enrollment, Chain & Ownership System to enroll in the Medicare program).
When was the last time your practice or practitioners enrolled in Medicare?
- Pre-2003 – you have to enter the information as if you are completing a new application.
- Post-2003 – your information should already be in the system (but you need to make sure!)
Be proactive! Check your enrollment today! This will save you time when you have to re-enroll your providers or bring on a new MD or mid-level provider or to simply maintain the currency of the enrollment data you have on file with Medicare
Internet-based PECOS was designed to be a faster means of applying for enrollment and updating enrollment information than the paper enrollment process (CMS-855).
