Your Office and H1N1 Flu

You’ve likely considered the impact the H1N1 virus will have on your patients. But, have you given consideration to the impact to your practice? With flu season right around the corner, the time is now to prepare your practice.

Here are a few considerations:

  • Provide flu shots to your staff and their families at no cost to them
  • Make it mandatory that staff who are sick to stay home
  • Ensure that your staff are cross-trained – there’s likely going to be increased absenteeism during this flu season (estimates are 20-40% of employees will be out sick)
  • Remind employees to plan for sick time
  • Educate staff and patients about precautionary measures to take to avoid contracting the virus

Important: The CDC has guidelines for physician practices: 10 Steps You Can Take: Actions for Novel H1N1 Influenza Planning and Response for Medical Offices and Outpatient Facilities. Read it today.

Also, review CDC’s Standard Precautions.
