Reporting Selective with Non-Selective Catheterization

Question:
Under the new lower extremity revascularization guidelines, if I place stents in the left and right external iliac arteries is this reported as a primary and add-on code?

Answer:
Under the new lower extremity revascularization guidelines, bilateral stents in the left and right external iliac arteries would be reported as two primary codes, 37221 and 37221-59. Depending on payor preferences, right and left indicators ( RT and LT) may also be used.
