You Built It, But Did They Come?
Many practices have Web sites these days. If yours is one of them, have you followed up to see if anyone is visiting?
If you don't review monthly reports from your Web hosting company, it's time to request them. The following are four key indicators for physicians and managers to review at least quarterly:
-
Number of user sessions. This is the number of users who visited the site. This indicator is different than "hits," which count graphics and other elements, not visitors. Some hosts can provide data about how many users visited once, or more than once.
-
Top pages with the highest traffic. Find out where visitors are going in your site. If you spend time updating an area of the site that no one visits, perhaps the page isn't positioned right. Or, if you find patients visiting a section with frequently asked clinical questions, for example, maybe it's time to add more content in that area.
-
Entry pages. If you have branded your site right, most people will access the homepage first. But if the report shows they enter a page within the site first, you may be catalogued differently by the search engines.
-
Error messages. This data can help you spot broken links, or learn if your host's server goes down more than it should.
