Course Overview
Our information-packed, on-site coding and documentation workshops are taught by the same nationally-recognized consultants who teach coding workshops for the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Academy of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, and the American Academy of Neurological Surgeons. In addition to learning about coding and documentation guidelines, these courses teach you how to navigate between coding issues, process issues, and payor policies.
These courses are available for Orthopaedics, Otolaryngology, Neurosurgery, General Surgery, Spine, Vascular Surgery, Plastic Surgery and Pain Management. Surgical Case coding sessions can be scheduled separately or with E&M instruction.
In addition to overall specialty-specific courses, customized subspecialty sessions are also available.

How Long is the Workshop?
1/2 to full day. The full day version includes specialty-specific, surgical case coding.
Evaluation and Management Coding and Documentation (Half Day)
This workshop covers everything you need to know about properly selecting an evaluation and management code, and correctly supporting it with documentation. The session also provides advice on developing effective data capture tools.
Learning Objectives
As a result of attending this course, participants will understand how to:
- Code accurately and ethically, according to the latest HCFA and CCI guidelines
- Correctly document each level of E&M service, according to HCFA guidelines
- Properly use E&M modifiers
- Accurately select new, established, consultation, and hospital visit codes
- Use coding tools and resources to improve coding accuracy
CPT and ICD-9-CM Workshop (Full Day)
This workshop covers evaluation and management coding and documentation, plus, hands-on surgical case coding, and payment analysis techniques.
Learning Objectives
As a result of attending this course, participants will understand how to:
- Recognize the correct use of ICD-9-CM and CPT codes for common, specialty-specific cases
- Use modifiers, levels of service, and unlisted codes accurately
- Institute proactive systems for tracking carrier specifications and reducing receivables
- Use sophisticated appeals strategies for following up on overdue amounts
- Understand how managed care contract language can impact reimbursement
Your learning experience is greatly enhanced if you have KZA also perform a coding and documentation review.
