As a plastic surgeon in private practice for 19 years, Dr. Kennedy understands common practice issues from the physician’s point of view. Her extensive coding experience adds an extra level of expertise to her dynamic, informative presentations.

Dr. Kennedy is an expert in a variety of reconstructive and cosmetic surgery procedures, including breast reconstruction, augmentation, augmentation-mastopexy, reduction, revisional breast surgery, liposuction, blepharoplasty, fillers and laser. She trains physicians and staff on these topics, and instructs them on how to correctly code the procedures. Dr. Kennedy has also spoken widely on ICD-10 coding.

For the past 10 years, Dr. Kennedy has collaborated with an exceptional group of physicians, as well as KarenZupko & Associates, to develop and provide ASPS coding courses. She has served as chair and vice chair for 6 of those years. She has spoken at the ASPS Annual Meetings in San Diego, Denver, and Chicago on coding issues, in addition to the joint ASAPS and ASPS Santa Fe Breast & Body Symposium. She is also involved in the ASPS Ethics Committee, Patient Safety Committee, and Leadership Development Committee.

Dr. Kennedy is passionate about promoting professional ethics and standards, which prompted her involvement in her local Disruptive Physicians committee, for which she is currently Chair. She also spent 5 years as a member of the Iowa Medical Society’s Law & Ethics committee.

Dr. Kennedy received a B.S. in Mathematics from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. She then earned her M.D. with honors and research honors from the University of Nebraska College of Medicine. Dr. Kennedy completed her residency in general surgery at University of Wisconsin Hospital & Clinics and a subsequent residency in plastic, reconstructive, and hand surgery at the University of Cincinnati. She has been a board certified plastic surgeon since 1999.

When she isn’t occupied running her business, Plastic Surgery Aesthetics, PC and PSA Surgical, Dr. Kennedy enjoys stained glass, traveling, and gardening. She also loves spending time with her children.
